Dolly kei style from Japan is an innovative way to approach older fashions.
From what I have read and seen, it is an emerging style which utilizes mainly antique and secondhand clothing, like “granny chic”. It’s aim is to look like a sort of antique doll that could be found in earlier eastern European eras. There is no structured silhouette for dolly kei, but more of an emphasis on interesting colors and texture, coordinated not simply to match, but to intrigue the eye.
I am personally not confident enough to pull this style off or fashion-conscious enough to even begin to coordinate an outfit in this style, but looking at what these Japanese women can do with the most outrageous print and texture combinations is simply fascinating.
